SLJ Week One Day 5 Activity 3: Own Choice

Hi, guys, today is the Fifth day of the SLG. That stands for the summer learning journey. The purpose of it is for when you back to school from the big holiday your reading and writing does not drop in level. If you do not do the SLJ in the summer the stuff that you did through the year you will need to do all of it again.

You have now made it to the end of Week 1 and have the chance to choose your very own sportsperson or explorer who you think has changed the world. There are no right or wrong choices for this activity, so find someone who interests you and tell us about them on your blog. It could be someone from your family, church, community or someone famous who you admire.

For this activity, I need to choose one person (a changemaker) and read all about them.
On My blog I need to to provide you with:

  1. The name of the person
  2. A description of the work they do/have done
  3. An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others

Here is what I have made.

SLJ Week One Day 5 Activity 2: Swimming to Safety

Hi, guys, today is the Fivth day of the SLG. That stands for the summer learning journey. The purpose of it is for when you back to school from the big holiday your reading and writing does not drop in level. If you do not do the SLJ in the summer the stuff that you did through the year you will need to do all of it again.

Yusra Mardini is a teenage girl who was born in Syria, a war-torn country in the Middle East. She left Syria in 2015 to get away from the constant fighting and became a refugee. During her journey to reach safety in a new country, the engine on the boat she was travelling in broke down and Yusra, her sister and two others jumped out of the boat and swam to get help. Her heroic actions saved twenty people’s lives.
Yusra now lives in Germany. In 2016 she was named as part of the Refugee Olympic Team and she swam for this team in the last summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is now training for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

On My blog,  I need to retell the story of this amazing young woman from Syria.
Here is my writing.
Yusra Mardini is a refugee, an Olympic athlete and a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.  During Her flight from Syria, she made the dangerous sea crossing between Turkey and Greece. At one point swimming for her life when the motor of the boat failed. Now she is visiting refugee in refugee Sicily.
