SLJ week 1, DAY 5: AGAINST THE ODDS, Activity 1: National Treasure

Hi, guys, today is the fourth day of the SLG. That stands for the summer learning journey. The purpose of it is for when you back to school from the big holiday your reading and writing does not drop in level. If you do not do the SLJ in the summer the stuff that you did through the year you will need to do all of it again.

Sophie Pascoe is a New Zealand para-swimmer. This means she is a competitive swimmer with a physical disability. Very sadly, Sophie was run over by a lawnmower when she was only 2 years old. She had to have the bottom of her left leg amputated. However, despite this terrible accident, she was determined to become a competitive swimmer.
Sophie has won numerous New Zealand and world para-swimming titles, including nine Olympic gold medals. She has also won the Halberg Award for Disabled Sportsperson of the Year three times. Sophie is a great example of a New Zealander who did not let her disability stop her from achieving her dreams. She is truly a National Treasure’. A national treasure is someone or something that is very important to a country.

My blog, I need to share three things that you treasure and say why they are treasures to you Here is mine.

1.  Going to the beach with my dog on Christmas.  This is a treasure to me because long ago when I was little we went to the beach on Chrismas and after we got a dog.
2.My Dads vest form the army. This is a treasure to me because when I was not born here was in the army in Egypt and I think that is cool.
My soccer ball because for favour soccer player gave It to me.

  1. Hey David!
My name is Nadia, I am also from Hornby High School, and I am part of the commenting team for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020, so I will be commenting on students blogs these school holidays!
Wow this is such a great blog post, you have done a great job of coming up with treasures that you have. It's really cool that you have your Dad's vest from the Army. It's good to have keepsakes like that.

Next time, I think it would be cool for you to create a poster or slideshow displaying what your treasures are. If you included photos of them it would be even better. I think this will draw more people to your blog, and you might also get more comments about it. It just makes your blogs more interesting.

    Congratulations on another epic post!
Keep up the great work, I hope to see a reply from you soon!
    - Nadia :)

    2. Thanks for the reply David!
It's always good to make your work the best you can in the time that you have. If you don't have enough time to make a really nice poster, you could substitute it for an eye-catching google slide or some other type of presentation. I understand that sometimes we do not have time to always make things pretty but I think an extra two minutes to make a google slide will be worth your time.

      You're welcome for the comment!
I hope to see a reply or two!
